I took a look at the ISTL to see if there was any linear algebra stuff that
came to mind and pretty much everything I'm aware of is in there
(iteratives solvers, preconditioners, and algorithms) so I can't really
think of anything in that regard. One thing I do notice is there are no
spectral based methods but it's pretty clear to me why not.

I've printed out most of the papers listed on the DUNE site and will give
them a read through this weekend to see if anything comes to mind. Most of
my knowledge is in spectral methods (because we can get away with triply
periodic domains) and I'm not at all up to date in the latest in FEM or FV
ideas.
