Okay, it's gone.

BTW, the only place that referenced the file was the line

sourcescheck_NOSOURCES = ...

in Makefile.am.  This sourcescheck target is documented in
the buildsystem howto (page 15), but not in a way that I
can understand.  Could somebody please elaborate on what
sourcescheck actually does?
