Probably from the environment then. For CGI scripts there are
environment variables like HTTP_HOST, SERVER_NAME. PHP should offer some
way to access the same information.

Deciding on either "dune-project.org" or "www.dune-project.org" to be
the canonical address and have the other redirect there might solve the
problem if this is the case. (And having only one canonical address is
also recommended for other reasons like web crawlers/search engines.)
