welcome to Dune!
Please keep all GSoC related mails on the dune-devel mailing
list, don't post it to the dune mailinglist, which is dedicated
for people to get help using Dune.

Great! In the past I was disappointed that professors do not point their
students to such opportunities as GSoC. Thanks for providing a
counter-example.
Project 2 attracted already a lot of attention, Project 3 far less.
Anyway, I advice you to write proposals for both projects as it will
increase the chances of getting chosen.
Are you currently a PhD or a "plain" student? Make sure that your status
is some kind of students, otherwise you might be not eligible for GSoC.
