Hey everybody,
Thanks for your nice mail. It's been quite an exciting and interesting journey for me as well! It definitely formed my academic identity quite a bit: My commitment to FOSS, the ability to work on complex codebases, the experiences in managing developer and user communities. I am taking all those into my current and future role at the Scientific Software Center.
When starting there, I thought that I would work with/on Dune once in a while, but it turns out that this is not true. But that does not mean that I am unhappy - we have a lot of exciting work to do and many nice collaborations, they just not tend to be focussed around PDEs and Dune so much.
The decision to step down from my role as Core Developer came from a recent discussion with a colleague (from a completely different context) about scientific credit: The credit for a software framework should always be with the ones that currently sustain it. That does not only mean to give credit to newly onboarded developers, but also that de facto retired ones need to stop taking credit (implicitly or explicitly). After that discussion, I realized that I am violating these very principles myself regarding Dune. So, please take my stepping down as a sign of respect and try onboarding new people as core developers instead.
Best,
Dominic

Dear Dominic,
we all here at the Dune Developer Meeting just realized that you stepped
down as a Dune developer. Of course we understand that you have other
duties now and we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for
all the important contributions that you have made to Dune! Thank you so
much!
Best regards from all the developers here in Dresden!
