Dear Dune!
The makers of the Amira visualization software have released a standalone
version of the libamiramesh library (thanks to them!), which is used by
Dune to read and write in the AmiraMesh file format. The library is
available precompiled for several platforms at

www.amiravis.com/resources/Ext411-01-libamiramesh/index.html

I was told that the compiler used for the Linux versions was gcc-4.0.
There is also a chance that the source code of the library may be
made available under an open source licence sometime in the future.

Enjoy!
Oliver
