OK, I implemented the iterator interface using the genericiterators provided in dune-common, implemented two proxy classes, in order to avoid the const_cast and cleaned up the allocators.

Now BlockBitField is a full replacement of stl_container<bitset>. I didn't implement the full vector interface yet, but at least the forward-iterator interface and the [] operator are present.

A basic test app is also available.
