OK. Now here's a short file provoking the error trying to have a GridFunction* point to a LeafP1Function. Compiles with UG but not with ALU. Using one or the other GridManager can easily be switched by uncommenting/commenting the corresponding #define's. Error with ALU is (on my machine):

test.cc:91: error: cannot convert ‘Dune::LeafP1Function<Dune::ALUSimplexGrid<2, 2>, double, 1>*’ to ‘Dune::GridFunction<Dune::ALUSimplexGrid<2, 2>, double, 1>*’ in initialization

If for some reason someone wants to try the included examples with the TestFunctions 1. uncomment the corresponding define and add a "Dune::" in front of GridFunctionGlobalEvalDefault in the constructor of TestGridFunction2 (testgridfunction2.cc, l.16).
