A closer inspection of the FieldVector iterators revealed that they are too much unlike stl iterators to be replaced by them.  Leaving the iterators in FieldVector reduces the net savings in code lines obtained by inheriting from std::array to almost nothing.  I will close this as 'won't implement'.
