This is not about VTKFunction.  This is about the P1VectorWrapper, which is used when addVertexData is given a vector of node-based values instead of a VTKFunction.  For cubes of dim > 2 this requires an interpolation similar to q1.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but q1 is not linear.
