As far as I can tell from the documentation available to me the method reset() is supposed to decrement the reference count and free the memory if the rc has reached zero.  You seem to say otherwise. Am I mistaken?

An implementation of reset() is indeed missing in Dune::shared_ptr. I will provide one as soon as I am sure of what it is supposed to do.
