Details - This method just sets a boolean that is IMHO never used.

Probably the authour intended to use it in the refine methods  that do not have a boolean
argument indicating whether the overlap should be refined.

I would propose either to remove the method or to honor the boolean in the refine methods and
adapt the documentation
