I would be *very* reluctant to introduce these namespaces.  And I disagree with Oliver -- there are of course ways around the introduction of new namespaces.

One possible way would be to keep the the present core modules dune-common, dune-grid and dune-istl in the namespace Dune and introduce namespaces for all new modules.  PDElab already does this, so there won't be any conflicts between PDElab and anything else.

If we would adopt this solution, we will always have to be careful about name clashes between dune-common, dune-grid and dune-istl, but I think this would be practicable.  Introducing new namespaces for these modules would probably mean many days of work for DUNE developers and users, again without any real benefit from a user's point of view.

At the moment, I am not decided for any of the suggestions.  But I think we should carefully think about it and not just say "There is no alternaitve".  There always is.
