It is useful to force a discussion.  Of course, now that there has been an objection we will not change anything.

On the other hand, dune-localfunctions is unreleased research code, which means that we may break backward compatibility anytime.  Your first implementation contained that FieldVector-of-FieldVector construction which we all agree cannot be a permanent solution.  Please do not block improvements by saying 'it breaks all our code'.

The divergence is the trace of the Jacobian.  The trace is a matrix operation.  One more reason to make the method 'jacobian' return a matrix.
