This is not true! In case of ALBERTA 2.0, linking is checked.

With the upcoming ALBERTA 3.0 release, the linker check is not so easy. To link against libalberta_nd, you need to use libtool. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as LT_CHECK_LIB or any other libtool equivalent of AC_CHECK_LIB. If someone knows a _safe_ hack around this, feel free to implement it...
