I don't really like the idea of an update() method. It pulls a whole bunch of other update methods with it. Your GridView is uses IndexSets, so these need an update() method. Your function space would need some aswell. Your mappers are broken after a grid change. Currently a very general design decission was that the only thing that survives a grid change are IdSets.

Either we agree to "just" improve the documentation, or we have to put this on the agenda of one of the next meetings.
