It seems like you are using the ISTL backend of pdelab. This does not use the ISTL parallelization approach , but uses the communication interface 
of the underlying grid together with the sequential matrix and vector data structures. Therefore the mentioned OpenMPI bug does not apply.

As you are sure that the error is in the solvers, I would test with another MPI implementation (e.g. MPICH) and with another underlying parallel grid. If the problem
still persists, we have to check the pdelab stuff.
