Exactly the same problem occurs in the smart_ptr. You can instatiate smart_ptr<Foo> from any pointer to Foo, but you there are no restrictions to the allocator in use. The exact allocator is stored using tpye-erasure. You can have a look at the implementation Carsten added to dune-common.
