The proposed patch in fs#854 essentially convinced me about A). But since the GT is no container maxIndex(dim) would be more convenient than size. Furthermore the semantics nonstatic method seem to be a little strange to me.

Furthermore it would be nice to also incorporate 'none' in the index. E.g. appending or prepending it to the other indices. Otherwise you always have to do this manually (see fs#854).
