I'm sorry, but considering a linker error to be related to strict aliasing was absolut nonsens. It's really to hot here.

Cound you try which symbols are in the object files and if you have enabled the old numbering:

nm -C dune/grid/common/referenceelements.o |grep general
nm -C dune/grid/.libs/libgrid.a |grep general
grep DUNE_ENABLE_OLD_NUMBERING config.h
