The comparison to the intersection iterator is a good idea. There, too, we have two type, a LeafIntersectionIterator and a LevelIntersectionIterator. But there is only one interface class: Dune::IntersectionIterator.

Let me emphasize that this change will only be visible to grid implementors. And, if I'm not mistaken, they only see it if they implement the Traits class by hand.
