For the release I'm 50-50 between a) and c).

For the trunk I vote a) in the short term an b) in the long term.

As far as I understood Markus, the problem in our pool is not so much the version of the compiler but rather the particular installation.  Apparently is magically works now with g++-4.1 (but sill not with g++-4.3).

Anyway, I consider any filesystem entity that has the name of one of the standard headers within the search path a bad idea.  It happened several time for me that "#include <list>" stopped working, and the first time it took me quite some time to figure out the reason: something like "find -name *.cc >list" in the toplevel directory of a dune module.
