Pleae have a look at FS#912. As you already pointed out yourself, mkstemp is not portable. Actually the siation didn't change at all, as in the previous code mkstemp was used to generate a file name (the file itself was remove immediatly after to creation), to generate a file, which you could then pass on, to generate the file.
