@Markus: if you look a the patches, you'll notice, that they are backwards compatible. The AM_SILENT_RULES are only used when available.

@Arne: The current patch requires changes in all modules. I tried to keep as much intelligence in the core m4 files as possible, in order to reduce the require work when introducing new features. Please add such feature either to dune-common/m4 or to m4-generating part of dunecontrol.

In general I think such a feature can be added already today and is useful. I'm not 100% sure that it is really necessary to add the patch. If I remember correctly silent builds have been possiblebefore and without extra magic.
