FS#866 - test failure: testmatrix
User who did this - Oliver Sander (sander)

I wrote the test originally, indeed for bug 778. The test matrix that I hardcoded is indeed very ill-conditioned, and that was deliberate: it was the purpose of this test to make sure that the determinant of a nearly-singular matrix could be computed without having the code crash (see the discussion in FS 778). Testing whether the matrix could also be inverted was added later by Martin. I suppose the idea was to test that only with a GMP type. You can see remnants of such code in testmatrix.cc.

I suppose the best way out is to simply remove the inversion test for the nearly-singular matrix, or have it run only with a gmp type.
