The impact for the user should be extremely small (unless somebody specializes over the type of the facade).

For the grid developer, on the other hand, this interface change be quite invasive, i.e., all grid implementations will have to be adjusted. But this should only affect very few people.

Personally, I don't see any feasible possibility for a smooth transition.
