Hmm, might be a good idea, I will try to keep that in mind. 

I found my observations from a while ago in a private email exchange with Oliver, so I file this here as a possible continuation point: 
In ug/parallel/dddif/lbrcb.c line 454, given an element e, a PARTITION(e) is printed, which holds the target process. This happens before actually something is balanced. I hope that this could be useful for something...
