In FS#918 it seems that only the selection of the correct version of the lib is the problem. But the problem persists if you have the same version installed and as working copy. Hence versioning would also have to incorporate this case, e.g. using libdunecommon-2.1.0.so vs libdunecommon-2.1.0-vc.la.

Would it be possible implement ELias' suggestion, i.e. to hand a local version [...]/libfoo.la (if found in the module path) directly to libtool and to use -lfoo only if no local version but an installed one was found?
