The past to patches were applied in r6543 by Robert. I think there is not much speedup left in the configure tests.

Should the configure caching be included in dunecontrol? I think it is save to enable it by default, if the config cache file is deleted before every run. Than we gain the speedup n-1 times for n modules and wouldn't introduce any weird bugs.
Is this a desirable feature? Robert worries about the increasing complexity of dunecontrol and pledges for a manual solution. Then I would add this topic in the DUNE Build System Howto.
