This seems to be a bug in the test (vertextest.cc). It uses the StructuredGridFactory to create a surface grid of the unit cube [0,1]^dim, where dim is the dimension of the grid (not the world dimension!). Hence, the question is whether the test (or the StructuredGridFactory) can be applied to surface grids at all.
