Regarding clang: That's a difficult topic.

GCC and libstdc++ are tightly coupled. While it is possible to use clang with libstdc++, that combination does have some problems; at least with libstdc++ 4.6 and earlier. An alternative to libstdc++ by the llvm folks called libc++ is in the works but it's far from ready afaict (still fails a lot of tests, requires libc++abi to be a proper replacement but that library is even farther from completion[1]).

If anyone's interested in a detailed status of dune+clang, please let me know.

In short, I don't think we should be encouraging anyone to compile dune with clang.

While we're on the topic, I would like to bring attention to fs#1005 and fs#998.
