FS#1000 - Migrate build system from autotools to CMake
User who did this - Alf Birger Rustad (abir)

----------
My home is chemically free of Microsoft products, I compile my own router firmware. And I have a teenage gaming son, implying that I need to spend an unhealthy amount of time tinkering with wine and proprietary drivers. At work, workstations and cluster nodes run RHEL. Sure, cross-platform is nice, but it was not present on my list of reasons for porting Dune build system over to cmake.

I am managing software projects from various sources, having to deal with build systems and version control systems of all sorts frequently. I am pretty sure I would be far more productive if everybody just converted to cmake and git. Custom build systems, no matter how well thought out and implemented, cause a lot of extra work down stream.

I am not knowledgeable enough to give good input on what functionality to replace in dune-control. Ideally though, I would like to see something like this for Dune:

Have a nice week-end,
Alf
