As far as I understand, ALBERTA's install scripts will do not install the lib into this directory, but your package vendor does. I think we can neither anticipate every OS vendor's policy for installing libs, nor do we have the manpower to do so.

I also don't consider it a good idea to have a separate --with-package-name-libdir and --with-package-name-includedir (or anything similar), because it is hard to maintain and overcrowds the confingure options.

To resolve the probem, I could imaging dune-common providing a LIB_PATHSUFFIX (name to be discussed) containing a list such as "lib:lib64" with subdirectory names to try for the libs. Of course, the default setting would be LIB_PATHSUFFIX="lib". Then, all our tests could automatically try these subdirectories in the given order for the libs. That should actually resolve Christoph's problem for all libs while being minimally invasive.

Of course, better suggestions are always welcome.
