thanks for explaining! There is a known bug in the GitLab implementation of git-lfs that makes it impossible to push to lfs-enabled repositories over SSH. The developers wanted to fix
this with GitLab 8.8 (due today), but I think it slipped a month to 8.9. Until then, pushing to the website repository is only possible over https. It’s inconvenient, I know, but there is
nothing we can do about it at the moment. I’ll send an update as soon as this situation changes.

And regarding the second point: Git cannot apply smudge filters (the mechanism used for git-lfs) based on file size, only on file path. So all binary data now goes into git-lfs.

But I think Christian’s problem is probably due to the SSH issue.
