Hi there,

the Math's department (ok: the secretary in charge of it) has triggered me to
provide some "News" item with some, well, positive, politically correct, good
for us, short notice about what the hell (my formulation) this Dune-Meeting was
about.

Here is some sort of draft. It is too long. I also suppose that some of you may
have something similar at hand ready-for-reuse. If you could please provide me
with a ready-to-reuse-with-slight-modifications text or something, that would be
great.

The News-tickers should not be too technical, sound nice and positive. Which
probably rules out the draft below.

Also: the text below is really Dune-specific. As the funding is targeted in a
wider perspective, perhaps non-Dune aspect should be covered as well (combined
Dune OPM whatever meeting, and also the News-thing should probably cover the
funding, which is missing ATM).

Any help is greatly appreciated, best

Claus

=================================
>From November 5th to November 8th the annual Dune User- and Developer Meeting
took place at the University of Stuttgart.

The Dune-project is a comprehensive simulation framework which covers a very
broad range of state-of-art techniques for the simulation of problems arising
from engineering and natural sciences as well as more basic mathematical questions.

The Dune-projects loosely started at the very end of the last century and soon
became the joint work of a community of collaborating working groups in order to
bundle their efforts for a flexible but yet easy-to-use simulation frame work.
It allows to tackle standard problems with well-known simulation techniques in
order to protect scientists from "reinventing the wheel" over and over again.
At the same time it provides a general framework which allows to implement
bleeding-edge algorithm with moderate effort.

The Dune-community [NOTE: link to dune-project.org] comes together in regular
annual meetings since the early days of the Dune-projet. Generally, these
meetings are split 50-50 in two parts:

* the Dune-User-Meeting which serves as a platform for scientists using the
Dune-framework to report about their research, and also give feedback about
their particular experiences, needs and enhancements to the frame-work which
they would like to be realized.

* the Dune-Developer-Meeting where the core-developer-team meets in order to
discuss the future developments of the Dune-project, not least taking into
account the input provided by the "User-Meeting" part of the workshop. The
developer-meeting is open to every interested party.

The combined Dune User-and-Developer meetings has proven to be a vital
ingredient in order keep the spread-over-the-world user- and developer-community
in contact.

And so on.
