If my user opinion is worth a dime: I'd also like to see it removed. IMO it is not satisfactory that FieldVector inherits a public method size() from DenseVector but then renders it unusable by defining an enum by the same name while at the same time there exists another enum containing the exact same information/number.

To me at least it seems highly inconsistent to have a publicly documented (see http://www.dune-project.org/doc/doxygen/html/classDune_1_1FieldVector.html) public method that cannot be used.
