For me, the question arose in the factory for Alberta, where I don't have that information in the method insertBoundarySegment. Ok, for Alberta this is trivial: It's always a simplex. But you are right: It is mainly a matter of consistency.

I also just gave the generic geometries a thought: Even there you can derive the type from the number of corners (though that is probably a bit time-consuming).
