That part of the interface is the easy one. 
The open question for me is: what do we expect
after a restore?
- should the index sets be the same as at the point of backup
- what about the ids

That is all I can think of right now. My suggestion would be:
Id should be persistent, I would like index sets to be persistent
but that is perhaps a bit restrictive?
