That's what happens when you post bugs in a hurry. I understand what that norm is about now.  A little more documentation would be nice, however there is a slightly more serious problem.  If you start nesting matrices then in general you do not get the correct norm.  Rather, you get the maximum of the block row sums of the infinity norms of the blocks.  In general this is not the infinity norm. What is worse, this norm depends on the blocking structure of your matrix.
