FS#1000 - Migrate build system from autotools to CMake
User who did this - Christoph GrĂ¼ninger (gruenich)

----------
Please have a look on the User wiki to get some numbers, a compilation of arguments and further resources. The selected arguments are an excerpt from the past mailing list discussions and discussions by other projects (LXDE, Gtk#). I think this are the main arguments.
My motivation is the pain of changing something in our build system and the compilation speed. I can twiddle with M4 and bash, but it is a time consuming pain. And everybody claims that CMake is faster, have a look for the numbers. At least libtool seems to take ages for linking compared with CMake.

@Christian:
Thanks for your answer. Your requirements are reasonable and I hope everyone can roughly agree to this procedure.
We are aware of the amount of work. I hope that if the first steps are done and the advantages are visible, we won't remain only two CMake developers.
