I was coming to the same conclusion and perhaps the best way
really is to just keep the topology id on the GeometryType and have
utility classes to get the index:
GeometryTypeIndex::localIndex(gt)
GeometryTypeIndex::localSize(gt)
and
GeometryTypeIndex::globalIndex(gt)
GeometryTypeIndex::globalSize(gt)
We could easily add this class to the release - it does not change existing code.
And if we latter decide that we want to have one or the other version directly
on gt, that a simple transition.
