Hi Bernd,

1) a tarball is supposed to work without autoconf/automake install, thus dunecontrol is not allowed to run autogen.
2) you should always be able to run dune-autogen by hand to regenerate configure after changing configure.ac
3) if configure.ac got changed the dependency tracking forces a regeneration of configure. It might well be that certain components are not found during this automatic regeneration
4) to prevent (3) you  can simply call "touch configure" after changing configure.ac.
