Christoph Grüninger, I can strongly confirm that there is a large silent majority. I have promoted Dune to a growing number of experienced developers, and the build system is the number one obstacle. It is bad enough to threaten the dune-project's relevance. Hence, I hope this initiative can gain momentum. Cmake is an excellent choice, already embraced by the KDE-project. To help it along, I can try to provide funding for the work. Summer internships is one possibility for developers interested in helping out. Andreas and Christoph, you seem to be the best people to organize this effort. Please pop me a mail to discuss funding more developers to join the effort. I would love to help out coding, but I am pretty sure my time is better spent putting Dune to good use.
