With the broader community, I mean everybody using Dune except the core developers (not claiming everybody favours cmake). Not many projects on Ohloh uses dune-control though. We have gone all in using the complete Dune build environment for all Dune based projects for four years. For instance, you can check out dune-upscaling and dune-porsol. We also have to start over again. You are absolutely right, it is a consideration that should not be taken lightly.
