To bring this back into focus...

a) I had short conversation with Carsten. He says his python-dune-interfacfe is now in shape suitable for dune-common.

b) Rene Milk found a one-header-library which allows to parse simple expressions. It is a lot less flexible than the python solution, but it work on every machine. I'm not sure about the license, but I think it was BSD, which would allow the inclusion in dune-common

I would even vote for inclusion of both interfaces... not everybody has python available.
