I found the cause of the test failure: the test integrates unity over the reference element and checks this gives the volume of the reference element.  This means just summing up the weights of the quadrature points.

With my patch the order of quadrature points changed which gave a larger error for some cases.  I now sort the quadrature points by weight (starting with the smallest) and the test passes again.  An updated patch is attached.
