As I said earlier. I think this patch has its benefits (works without ctype). Regarding the original issue, I don't think it is the proper solution, as I still think we can move many computations to be runtime computations (during the construction of a singleton).

This does not mean that I think you should not apply the patch, but it means that after this patch I don't consider the bug fixed.
