[Dune] has the grid been adapted??

Good morning duners,
I wonder if there is a way to understand if the grid has been adapted.
I mean, preAdapt method tells me if the grid might be coarsened and 
adapt method tells me if the grid has been refined.
Then, checking for adapt result I'm sure that the grid has been refined 
or not, but nothing tells me if the grid has been coarsened for sure!
Am I wrong? How can I be sure that the grid has not changed?
I hope there is a way.
