The decision was that there is no support without -fno-strict-aliasing. This has nothing to do with the version. Also gcc-4.3 is not supported without it. The only specialty of gcc>=4.4 is that our tests luckily reveal that there is a problem.

It's not about rediscussing anything. It's just about hard-wiring the following decision for the 2.0 branch that is also documented in the release notes: No support without -fno-strict-aliasing. This will give users more safety.
