Still calming down is the better choice for both sides.
It think both of your views have some important essense in them, once
the aggression surrounding it is removed:

1. I agree with Robert that filing a bug report in this case should be
   correct procedure to handle the problem. (Attaching a patch to it
   that fixes it in the local version is perfect of course!)

  I am sure we can agree on this for other modules
  (dune-[common,istl]), too. Adhering to this policy would have saved
  you gays a lot of anger.

2. On the other hand I consider simply reverting patches  rude,
  too. Similarly to Christian this usually angers me considering the
  effort these patches usually pose. BTW: Did they break anything?
  Maybe next time (once the anger about 1. settles) we can have a
  discussion first.
